What is this mint error called?

    Thanks for the input! Unfortunately, this is just another case where knowledgeable young numismatists (not you John ;)) come along and usurp numismatic terms - in this case "orange-peel."

    Anyway, the effect on that coin is due to die fatigue. Collapsed die or sunken die describes the effect just fine.

    Oh yah!! I remember parts of that story. When the three dudes showed up and he wouldn't let them in either, because they were wearing hoodies and flip flops.

    Yup, and then Doug started whining about the camel poo all over the place....

    And since Doug was already a numismatist back then, he's like "Okay, I can understand the gold, but like, what's this frankincense and myrrh crap?"
