Gary, Got translation for ku-ping: it is the measurement for silver and gold and almost equal to liang (1:.999). When I found it in a Chinese chart of world measures it had liang written behind it which is the more common world for "ounce" but is actually equal to 1.32 oz or 0.08 lb. or 37.32g or .03732kg. FYI. I have a good wedsite for down loading Chinese typing software if needed! (free) Weifin in Taipei
I'd love to see those pictures can you please post a link or the pictures? I'm asking because I'm thoroughly convinced through experience with these that the original coin posted is a counterfiet.
Dutchman, I can try to retrace my steps to those sites but not sure that I can get a picture. I'll try to get the links for you. Give me a little time. Already 11pm here. Weifin. Took about an hour of digging as I recall. But there were many of that type but different weights! And after relooking at the dragon...they are the same. Still could be fakes unless varified! I'm working on post 1949 coinage--this is a bit out of my area... but my Chinese is not bad..
Some links to sell-sites Dutchman, haven't located original sites I first found but found several others of the English version and the Chinese version. Hope you get the links with so long a list. http://photo.pchome.com.tw/coin/124106134523 http://photo.pchome.com.tw/coin/124106152011 http://bbs.findart.com.cn/showforum/19788288-forum/ http://item.eachnet.com/prd/1235913293777606_prd.html http://www.cangbaoren.com/viewthread.php?tid=213568&extra=page=2
Weifin...Good to only collect post Chinese KMT rule. It is illegal in Red China to counterfeit their own currency post 1949. :headbang: Traci
Funny you say that, I was at Port Authority, NYC a few weeks ago catching a bus back home to MA and I was delayed for a few hours. So, being bored I purchased a sudoku book and mechanical pencil for the bus later. I got 2 pencils in the pack and one was silver the other pink. Being a guy I didn't need the pink and took the lead out, filling the silver, than abandoning the pink on the planters outside the bus station. I took a walk around a couple city blocks to kill some more time and when I got back the cheap, plastic, leadless, pink mechanical pencil was gone already. Moral of this story is NYC will put any scrap of another to use almost instantaneously, that there should indicate the aprox. value of your coin:goofer: Here is a Chinese coin I picked up a few months back at a coin show. It passed the magnate and scale weight test when I got home.
What is the weight that you used and where did you find its weight? the kuping should equal 1.32oz. per kuping and you have 1.44kuping. Don't know that the face weight will equal actual weight but that's what I get from the Chinese scale on-line converter. Also looks like good clear characters and tone of coin is good (from on-line view). Think you found a nice one! Still not ready to pay bucks yet... have some some in the market for NT$30 (less then US$1.00) and thinking of p/u a few.. wish I had a little scale to carry with me to the market (saw one for about US$70) that would be perfect. Perhaps for X-mas from the wife?
