Can anyone tell me what this coin is?
One side is gold and the other side is silver.

One thing is sure. It did not come from the US Mint like that.

My first thought is that it is a "magician's coin", but why would someone destroy a gold bullion coin in this fashion just to mate it with an ordinary SAE.

Can you post a photo of the edge?

I'll guess that it's not actually gold or silver.

The surfaces of the gold do look a little funky.

    I agree with Chris- it’s some kind of a magician’s coin/novelty item.

It’s not gold or silver. It was struck either in steel or in copper and then plated.

Well, the view of the edge was no help, but thanks for trying. I don't know how it was accomplished, but it is still my opinion that it is a "magician's coin", therefore, a fake.

    They didn't.

It never came from the US Mint at all. Look at the size of that "silver eagle" compared to the fingers. It looks to be about the size of a half dollar. On the "gold eagle" the rays do not pass through the date at the proper places. The whole thing is a fabrication.
