Hi @ChristineR, The Stack’s 18 June 1986 catalog is here https://nnp.wustl.edu/library/auctionlots?AucCoId=3&AuctionId=516606 The price realized for lot 463 was $198.00. In today’s inflation adjusted value that would be $478.96. EDIT ADDED: If the other coins have similar provenance info I suggest you provide copies of it to Mr Sear (or whoever) to help authenticate and value the items. - Broucheion
Thank you, Broucheion. Are you saying that if I send Mr. Sears four coins, I should also send copies of similar others that I have to help authenticate and value?
Hi @ChristineR, No, I am saying that you should tell him where/when the coin appeared for sale if possible. That fixes the coin at a point in time and helps establish a history for it. If there are photos in catalogs, so much the better. - Broucheion
@ChristineR , I found at least 4 others aurei that are sharing the same reverse die as yours. Some of them have price estimates , you can make an idea of the value , but keep in mind that yours is a little worn. I edited your photos to a better format, to compare. https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=2508086 https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=170853 https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=758637 https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=139464 https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=147496
