A clearer AND closer picture of just the mint mark would help immensely.

Ladylady, Definitely need better pictures of the rim of where your are talking about. I see it but alittle blurry. It "may" be a dropped letter but since its a Philly coin it would not be a mintmark but a dropped letter, if it's anything.

Hey, Ladylady! WOW! you've picked up a gem!. Easy Street has a place reserved just for you!
I wish I could be so lucky.
I agree with 9ball. List it on ebay. I'm sure you'll get well into the 7 figures for it.

There's a very, very slight chance it's a dropped letter. Without a good close-up, we must say it's PMD.

Judging by the picture the "d" in question is incuse. If it were raised like an actual mint mark. If you look at the other letters/numbers on the coin the coloration is different where there are raised letters.

For arguments sake, look at the O or D in God. It is darker in the middle on the letter, because the lighting creates a shadow off of the raised letters. From what I see in the pic, the "d" shape is darkened, which would happen because it is incuse and the shadow is cast off the edges into the impression.

Also, because the way that coins are made, BadThad is right, the odds of this being an actual mint mark letter are very slim.

Sorry to say it but its just PMD, and your brain is identifying the shape of the damage as a D.

Obvious damage. Look up how coins are made and you would see that it's not possible.
