What is the rarest coin & most expensive coin in the world???

    IMO, the rarest coin is a nice looking face on a Susan B. Anthony dollar.

    Yes, the Templeton Reid was one I had in mind. It's a private issue, so I guess that doesn't count against Eliasburg's claim.

    The doubloons definitely predate the Philadelphia mint, so in that sense they are not regular issue; however, under the Confederation, both the United States and the several States had full authority to coin money, so I cannot agree that coins issued under the Confederation are not "United States coins."

    I once took a tour of the Denver mint. You do realize that, before you walk out the door, you walk right in front of a loaded .50 caliber machine gun!
