Just wondering what the term would be to describe this overall relief design feature circled in red? (I don't think it's a fleur de lis. Or maybe the center of the design feature is a fleur de lis? Perhaps a 'scroll design'? A 'laurel design?')
I don't know what you would call it but I am interested in what medal that is. Is it 1,000 won or just something with the design on it?
It's a Komsco Currency Museum medal from 1987 or 1988. Commemorating the opening of the Museum in Daejeon.
The stuff for sale at the Seoul museum is...lacking for lack of a better word. I was disappointed that I couldn't even buy a current year coin set.
They could be called decoratives. If you want to have some fun ask the error room what kind of error is this? BTW, nice looking medal. What size is it?
looks like an Asian 'smile emoji ". Is the other side blank? metal composition ? would be a good 'love token' base.
The 2018 Bank of Korea Mint Sets went on sale TODAY (well, yesterday) at the Bank of Korea Museum building in Myeongdong. They are all now probably sold out. A crap load of elderly people lines up every year now and snaps them all up and sells them for a premium (3~5,000 won extra over the 8,000-Won sale price at the museum). They do this because the museum only sells one per customer. They'll get new stock later probably. I usually buy one there (If I go to Korea in the Summer) and one in the nearby underground shopping arcade.
The other side looks like this: It says, "Currency Museum Opening Commemoration" "Korea Minting and Security Printing Co." and the date of the museum opening in the 1980s.
No, man. You can't buy past years' sets there. They only sell the current-year sets. Go to the nearest underground entrance, and you'll see the Hoehyeon Underground Shopping Arcade. The entrances are right in front of the Museum building.
Yeah I lived there from 2016-2017. I tried going lots of times to the museum but they never had them. I didn't want to pay inflated prices in the underground stores. Oh well, I managed to get almost a full year-run(every year since they started being issued) set of 10, 50, 100, and 500 won coins while I was there.
I think I found out what this design feature is called: "relief foliated scrollwork with fluer di lis" Maybe leave the "fleur di lis" part out, as I really do not know if that's what that is in the center of the design.
