After my recent Victorinus - Virtus purchase I stumbled across another small group of Victorinus coins that I felt obliged to give a good home.

    Each has some merit...

    Victorinus
    Antoninianus
Obv:– IMP C VICTORINVS P F AVG, Radiate cuirassed bust right
Rev:– PIETAS AVG Pietas standing left, with her right hand sacrificing over a small altar and, in her left, holding a box of incense
    Minted in Treveri mint.
Reference:– AGK (corr.) 18a. Elmer 741. RIC 57

    Fairly well detailed.

    Victorinus
    Antoninianus
Obv:– IMP C VICTORINVS P F AVG, Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right
Rev:– SALVS AVG, Salus standing right, feeding serpent held in arms
    Minted in Southern mint.
    Reference:– RIC 67. AGK 21c

A nice portrait, well engraved, lots of silvering and a half decent reverse.

    Victorinus
    Antoninianus
Obv:– IMP C VICTORINVS P F AVG, Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right
Rev:– INVICTVS, Sol running left, holding whip, right hand raised, chlamys in two folds. Star in left field
    Minted in Treveri mint.
    Reference:– Cohen 49, RIC 114, Elmer 653

A classic example of this common type.

    Victorinus
    Antoninianus
Obv:– IMP C PIAV VICTORINVS P F AVG, Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right
Rev:– FIDES MILITVM, Fides standing left holding two standards
    Minted in Treveri mint.
    Reference:– AGK 5b; RIC 109

Longer obverse legend with more of the emperor's name (Marcus Piavonius Victorinus). A slightly more unusual reverse type for the emperor combined with a nice example and plenty of silvering.

Excellent Victorinus coins. I take it they came as a lot? It's been a very long time since I've purchased one of the Gallic Emperor's coins. Hmm, I may just have to rectify that (when I get off the wagon).

Wow Martin, that is a fantastic group of Victorinus examples (congrats)

    Sadly, I don't have a Victorinus example, yet ...

Hey, I admit that my following hypothesis may not be 100% thesis-material, but I hope that it leads you towards a final-answer ...

I was born and raised in Victoria (British Columbia, Canada) ... and whenever a bunch of us Victorians got together, the onlookers would usually refer to us as a-holes!!

    ;)

    ... I hope this helps?

    Cheers, my friend
