Naturally occurring platinum and platinum-rich alloys have been known for a long time. The Spaniards named the metal "platina," or little silver, when they first encountered it in Colombia. They regarded platinum as an unwanted impurity in the silver they were mining.

I rather like platinum very much. It makes a great addition to your jewelry!

Platinum is pretty..... That's all I know about it :p

But how could it ever have been considered an impurity? heh. Oh, the simple times....

Metal is only as valuable as we make it. The strange thing about the value of gold, is that there are less common materials out there that cost a hell of a lot less. I mean, you can buy radioactive plutonium cheaper than gold!

Of course, it's the collective human mentality that's been ingrained in us from the dawn of time. We seek gold because the ancients revered it - for what cause, we really don't know. (Unless you all want me to break out into my ancient aliens stuff, leave it at that. I sometimes give myself a headache thinking about those theories.)

The ancient civilizations clearly revered gold because.... IT'S USED TO CONTACT ALIENS!!!

Is it? I never knew it. Well, to my knowledge, gold was a shiny metal that always was eye catching either worn or used in other form.
