What is my 1865 3 cent piece worth.

    According to a couple of periodical price guides $65 to $70 retail. Expect a dealer or LCS to offer half if you want to sell.

    Hopefully, the writing on the slab under the grade comes off without leaving any damage. That could reduce the selling price as well

    It looks like the somebody wrote AU58++.

    I think the grade is about right. Some wear so can't be graded MS, or UNC.

    I think the slab grade is about right. The AU-58++ is a seller’s effort to squeeze a few more bucks out of a buyer IMHO. The $65 to $70 retail cited earlier is a reasonable estimate. The stickers are a major distraction. When such stickered slabs show up at a table at a show, I usually skip that table.

    1865 is the most common date for this series.
    But a true AU is at least $60.
    USA Coin book says $68, but they are usually high retail.
