I know exactly how you feel Fretboard. I used to collect anything rainbow toned. I had no goals, no standards, and no direction other than eye appealing toning. Once I focused on Jefferson Nickels, I became a much more discerning collector. While eye appeal and toning are still my passion, I no longer ignore strike or grade bumps as a result of market grading. The Jefferson Nickel series is one of the most diverse in all of US coins. You can assemble a circulated album set by searching change or build a $100K registry set of top pop FS nickels, and everything in between. There are toned coins for those that like eye appeal, full steps for the strike conscious collector, and a multitude of errors and varieties for collectors who covet such. Here is a link to my current registry sets. I also collect Peace Dollars but that collection has stalled in recent months due to the lack of availability of eye appealing toned examples. Here is a link to my registry set. I hope you find a series that will focus you collection and add to your enjoyment on our wonderful hobby. Good luck and if you choose to collect Jeffersons, don't hesitate to ask me for help or guidance. Paul
Awwwww that is a sweet Franc. Thanks, here are 2 1888 Frenchies back one from the metropole and one from indo-chine. Traci Kiss
'Firestick'= Firearm 'Moonbeam'= Flashlight 'Ink Stick'= Pen 'Go Fasters'= Running Shoes And I'm with the guys who collect whatever piques their interest. Have you seen the Heraldic Eagle on the Reverse of the '08 Eagle commemorative? That's what I've been liking lately. And of course anything old.
Started with anything and everything I could afford.. If it was in a PCGS or NGC slab and under 5 or 10 bucks I always grabbed them.. I have a huge hoard of coins.. some I love so not so much.. Now I Get only the coins I love.. It could be anything.. But love all the PF70 and MS70 Coins I can get.. I love modern silver Comms.in those grades.. And dang, I do love those Dimes.. Man... I am still a mess.. I need to focus..
It's not the greatest pic, obviously. I have been prioritizing coin purchases b4 photographic equipment. Here's my 1893-CC from my avatar.
Fretboard, I spent years working on a high-grade 20th century set and am now focusing on a Lincoln cent collection. Of course, like many of us, I will get hung up on the price of the 1909-S VDB cent, but it is a goal. I also have always loved Canadian coinage and have a collection of various pieces from our northern neighbors. I save any 90% silver I come across in rolls, and have always hung onto pre-1960 Jefferson nickels. I am thinking about building another series collection, probably something cheaper than Lincolns, though....Maybe Jefferson nickels or Franklin halves. I'll keep you all posted. Good luck with your collecting pursuits!
