Bought a few rolls of nickles today. Opened the first one and got a surprise. Over half of them are odd colors. 2 look almost gold plated. Some are rainbow toned. But then other have a milky appearance. Is this all just different types of toning?

Looks like someone disposed of a collection. I'd be willing to bet that is all album toning, especially by looking at the dates and condition.

Looks like it. Went through every coin with a loupe and they all had some degree of toning. So is album toning a bad thing? BTW all were mid 70’ss date

Ah yes the toning issue. As with most everything else with collecting it is a matter of personal preference. There are those who dislike toned coins, and those that find them acceptable and those that don't really care.

It's all in the eye of the beholder. I don't like it on silver but I love the way my nickels are toning in my Dansco album, especially the deep blue.

Generally I don't care for toning. Although those nickels look fine.

I am OK with nice light natural toning, not so much enamoured with artificially toned.

LOL @TyCobb ....I just went back and read the past posts about Toning NT vs AT.
Pop some corn for me too. All I know is right now I have 2 rolls of Toned Nickels in great shape. Wish I knew if I should be excited or not LOL!

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

When it looks like those nickels, album toning is a very good thing. Those look nice.

Well 3 of the 4 rolls I bought seem to be from the same collection dump, all toned to some degree. This last roll had a slew of gold toned ones. 1 roll was normal mixed dates. the toned ones were all in great shape and 1970's vintage.

*Note to self......buy more rolls of Nickels tomorrow

    haha

If you like them then great. I like the look and don't think anything is wrong with them. I just adhere to never paying a premium for toned coins.

I think they look great. I wouldn't buy them for just that condition, but, I sure would keep them. Thanks for showing them.

Won’t believe this. Just got to the quarters. First roll looking like another batch of 70”s toners.
