What is F stamped by date on Buffalos?

    I apologize if I've already asked this question, but what is the F stamped by the date on Buffalo Nickels?

    That would be the initial of James Earle Fraser, the man who designed and sculpted the Buffalo nickel.

    As stated, the F is the designers initial. If it is missing the F, it is an over polished die. 1918 is a good year for Buffalo Nickel. What mint mark is it, and condition?
