I did, over on Collectors Universe, about a decade ago.

Of course one can also just say "contrasting toning".

But "Circulation Cameo" or "CircCam" is, if I do say so myself, catchier ... and more fun. :)

Wounded, but otherwise a nice black-and-white CircCam!

Not the greatest example of circam. But I think the reverse of the 1949 looks pretty cool.

Yes, these would be more "crusty" than "CircCam". By "crusty", I mean that in a mostly good way, as in "original". At least for your 1949, there. Your 1941-S has issues, as I'm sure you are aware. But it is a good example of how CircCam (or "crusty") copper-nickel alloy coins sometimes skate dangerously near (or in this case, across) the boundary of "environmental damage". The '49 does look nice and "crusty" in a good, original way. I suspect the striations on the reverse are from impurities in the alloy - the same thing that causes "woodgrain" toning on bronze cents.

Love CircCams! Here are a few I've temporarily owned over the years:

    Oh, yes. Mos' def'!

Those 5-franc pieces especially are textbook CirCams!

Hm. CT seems to lack a "thumbs-up" emoticon.

Here. I shall post a cow instead, and you can pretend it is a thumbs-up. :cow:

    No? You'd prefer the beaver?

    As you wish. :beaver:

I'll take it! This thread has actually inspired me to launch a potentially foolhardy quest to fill out my empty Dansco 7070 with a CircCam type set...

I could probably take a cloth to it and make it really CircCammy but I like her as she is. :)

I remember that. It caught hold. Fun term for coins with this cool look.

This coin might qualify on it's obverse:

There's a lesson to be learned from the unfortunate reverse cleaning. Don't fight the CircCam!

These newps of mine are kind of "CircCammy" - the Seljuq one in particular.

Ancient Greece (Spartans in Taras, Calabria, Italy): silver drachm, Athena and owl, ca. 302-281 BC
    [IMG]

Turkey (Seljuq Sultanate of Rum): silver "Lion & Sun" dirham of Kaykhusraw II, AH 638 (1240-1241 AD)
