I usually don't look at silver coins but I did today. What is this error? Image23261.jpg Image23262.jpg Image23263.jpg Image23264.jpg Image23265.jpg

    That is what's called a Non-error
Looks like Post Mint Damage. If it's silver the rim looks crushed or worn, how is a mystery.

Why is the rim beveled and totally gone below the chin and almost normal to the west of Liberty? I don't see any scratch marks on the face or right behind the rim anywhere. To me it looks like an error. I'm usually wrong though....

Look at the word LIBERTY.. see how the top part of LI and B spread out. That is evidence enough for me.

Poorly struck and PMD for sure. It's worth a dime.

It's worth more than that if the OP says it's silver! ;)

1985D. Not silver. Worth ten cents. Poorly struck with worn dies and worn from circulation.

It looks like it was struck through machine oil.

I thought you were going to explain why they were spread out. I cant help notice you said its a mystery that why the rim is that way. Is there no explination for it? Is that why you guys say pmd?

A lot of different things could hav caused this. The point is, it didn't happen at the mint and it's not part of the minting process, therefore it becomes Post Mint Damage or OMD. It's not an error, which is only caused at the mint and is part of the minting process.

If that dime had a date of lets say 2013 would u still call it pmd? I have looked at lots of dimes but haven't seen one quite like this.
