Trying my luck here. Was wondering if anyone knows what happened to the reverse side of this Spanish colonial 8-Reales coin. Why was this done and HOW was it done? Always nice to learn new things. Many thanks in advance. Attached are photos of both sides and edge.
Hi. I've posted the edge, but (probably my fault), it's in a thumbnail at the end of both full-size pics. Here it is again.
It sorta might resemble one, but it definitely ain't one. Definitely a cast counterfeit. You can see the seam around the edge where the two halves of the mold came together.
Thanks all for the input. I was (and still am) curious about why they did that. Surely it wasn't for counterfeiting purposes since the pillars were replaced so blatantly by gears. Would have love to learn what the intended purpose was. Oh well, still interesting nonetheless.
