Trying my luck here. Was wondering if anyone knows what happened to the reverse side of this Spanish colonial 8-Reales coin. Why was this done and HOW was it done? Always nice to learn new things. Many thanks in advance. Attached are photos of both sides and edge. 20180220_135833.jpg 20180220_135250.jpg 20180220_135833.jpg 20180220_135250.jpg 20180220_135833.jpg 20180220_135250.jpg

it's some sort of token...doesn't look like a coin.

Thanks Wcoins, but the obverse is a dead ringer for a colonial 8-Reale Spanish coin.

Doesn't look like a real piece of eight. How much does it weigh?

Not a real coin. See how porous it is? It is a cast one-sided token. What does the edge look like?

I haven't weighed it yet (no batteries!). But I'll check for sure. Thanks.

Hi. I've posted the edge, but (probably my fault), it's in a thumbnail at the end of both full-size pics. Here it is again.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

It sorta might resemble one, but it definitely ain't one.

Definitely a cast counterfeit. You can see the seam around the edge where the two halves of the mold came together.

Thanks all for the input. I was (and still am) curious about why they did that. Surely it wasn't for counterfeiting purposes since the pillars were replaced so blatantly by gears. Would have love to learn what the intended purpose was. Oh well, still interesting nonetheless.

Perhaps someone's idea of a Mandala wheel.
