Used to be a wiz with Latin - but too many years have gone by. But as a result I can muddle through reading most of the romance languages - speaking them or writing them is another matter altogether :D I can usually get my point across with Spanish - if it's basic.

And as long as the subject is numismatics - I can struggle through reading Dutch & some German. As for the rest - may as well forget it.

I forgot about FORTRAN; I know (knew) that, and also ATLAS. Used to know a little IBM 360 assembler.

I always considered that Victor Borge's second best routine, behind his oral punctuation. :D

Roy...my bro-in-law loves that...we have thought about doing both at the same time--I would read in Inflationary and he would do the oral punctuation---when we are together...its nuts!!!

Oh, yeah, I forgot about that one, too: I also speak a little geek. More fluent in nerd, though.

My native language is finnish, and i suppose i speak english and swedish quite fluently. I understand german, but speaking and writing it is more difficult.

I am pretty fluent in British, Canadian, Australian, New Zealandish, and some other similar languages.

I had French in High School and was pretty good, but I lost most of it.

I have learned some German, but will never be fluent (and don’t want to be – it would drive me crazy trying to get there). I can order a beer and do assorted other vital things, so that is good enough for me.

Not me; I watch many British television series on PBS, A&E, etc., and some of the regional accents are so strong I need subtitles.

English is my mother tongue. I also speak, write and read German and Russian, though with only a moderate degree of fluency (German better than Russian). I take proficiency tests every year in both. At one time I was also able to speak, write and read Chinese Mandarin, but it's been so long that I have limited abilities with it now. I picked up a few pleasantries in Korean when I was stationed over there, but that is about it. I can gist out printed Spanish, usually, and understand some, but don't speak much at all.
