What Error is this?Looks very odd to me...Please Help??Thanks

    I would advise you to read up on the minting process, because nothing you described could really happen at the mint.
    1) I don't think you can have an "oversized rim" error. Blanks (unstruck cents without the rims) go through what is called an upset mill, which gives them their proto-rims before being struck.
    2)the coin is fed into the striking chamber, where it is seated in the die collar (this holds it in place). This allows the coin to expand into the collar once struck. Therefore, your rim could not have gotten smashed by the dies.
    Unfortunately, I cannot even begin to decyper what else you have mentioned.


    Bottom line: if you can't explain how it happened in the mint, then what is so different about explaining how it happened OUTSIDE the mint? There are hundreds of thousands of ways it could have been damaged outside of the mint, and there is no evidence that it is a genuine error. You say it's an error, yet you can't explain how the "error" came to be. Then how do you know it is an error in the first place?:rolleyes:
