We ALL wanted these cards. We also had bikes, and when you hear that we put cards in to our spokes, YES.!! that is true.!! But trust me, it was of the lamest, god awfulest players in the league. Never was it of a great player..</p><p> </p><p>Here is what really happened to those collections. We all tried to get the best players of the time...Rose,Mantle,mays,maris,ruth,..etc...</p><p> </p><p>We ALL put them in shoe boxes, NO exceptions.!! we had nothing else.!! ALL my friends had them...!!</p><p>I remember trading cards like crazy, even Hank Aaron rookie cards for other cards, pete rose for other cards. if you had a duplicate of a great card, YOU traded it for other cards you wanted, usually for YOUR team that you wanted filled...even no-namers, you wanted your COMPLETE team above ALL else..!! We didn't Know the value of any of these cards at the time, there were NO price guides. </p><p>We were very happy, I remember getting the Lew Alcinder card in a pack. WE KNEW he was going to be big, I kept that card. And may I say, NONE and I repeat NONE of my friends would buy more than 2-3 packs at a time. </p><p>WHY? because when we would go to the store, we were conservative to a fault, these packs were .25 a piece (if i remember correctly)...And first, we didn't want our parents to think we were crazy....Or maybe it was we knew they wouldn't by more than a pack or 2. but that is the way it was..</p><p> </p><p>Here is what happended to our great collections..We had them in shoeboxes....then we turned 16...and our parents wanted to clear out space, did a spring cleaning, whatever...and when mom asked us what to do with them..and ALL of us said, "Throw them out"....because we associatied them to being 12 and young...it was almost being embarresed to still having them. Kinda like having a G.I. Joe doll in your closet...Please get rid of it.</p><p> </p><p>My mom was smart enough, to ask my younger cousin if he wanted them, he did, she sent them all.</p><p> </p><p>Fast forward 30 years, he know owns 2 nolan rookie cards, 5 pete rose rookie cards, willie mays rookie, hank aaron 4 rookie cards, and many others...</p><p>I asked for them back, but sorry, I will not be getting them....</p><p> </p><p>ok, that's my story...[/QUOTE]</p><p><br /></p>
