I just won this while sitting next to a Rolls-Royce Concorde jet engine. I say AU-53/55. What sayeth thou? The jet engine in question.
Mmmh, I' m not sure, what's about the dark spot obverse at 12:00...environmental damage? Then AU53 Details.
AU58 if the black deposit comes off well, and AU53 if not. Details if it gets screwed it up in the process.
Definitely an nice AU coin. If you can get that blob of detritus off the obverse at 12:00 and the other bit above star 6, I'd say the coin stands a decent chance of going AU55 or AU58 at any of the major tpgs...if not then AU details, which would be a shame.
Straight to the wingtips and forehead hair on Barber Quarters to start considering wear. I don't think the blob at 12:00 comes off "clean;" I think it comes off "too clean." The better you remove it, the more clear a piece of coin which has not aged like the rest has becomes. Remove it completely, you have a nice "clean" spot which makes the operation obvious. You'd have to dip it to fix that, and that is not an improvement for what I'm seeing as an AU55 coin.
Thanks all for the opinions. I too am wondering about how well the blob would come off, but for less than $30, I'm not going to complain.
IMHO, that coin has virtually all of its luster! New thread, new thread...what does luster on a coin look like? Get ready for fireworks...
