Ok list them all....and I bet you done well as what 3 months,6 months, a year? Show me the money that a 1937 3 legged buffalo brings, a 1916 D dime, an 1909 s vdb.
These are hyped inflated sets that in a years time will be long forgotten .
    Take the 2008 rev of 07 ase. Who's knocking on your door for them now? I had 11 of the, 3 raw 5 -69 ' s and 3 -70's
Ended up selling the last one of the 70's on a trade of another 69 plus cash. The reason all the dealer's I know personally, and deal with on a monthly basis had no interest ! No one would pay for a 70 at hundreds more than a 69. One dealer has 3 -69 ' s in his show case for months without even someone asking to see one in hand.
What about the baseball coins? Seems like the coin of America's past time .... has passed with time.

I think certain of these issues are great, of course that maybe because I'm still young enough that I'll be still around in 50+ years. Which leaves me plenty of time to be patient waiting for them to appreciate in value. And if they never do at least my kids and eventual grand children might be able to someday say hey 'Oh that 2015 RP silver dime, yea get this, my grandfather bought this from the mint at issue price way back in 2015, crazy right'

See post #55 for the list. Over the last 20 years all of the ones on the 100k or less list have appreciated at a higher rate than any of the classics you mentioned. That 2008, rev of 07 should probably be added to the list, as I like it long term, but should have picked it up years ago.

They are worth less than issue price per the other poster. That is not "doing well."

Sometimes losing less is doing well, yet many have gone way up from issue price, a sign they are collected for more than their bullion value. I thought twice about putting the Pucks on the list, as they could be attacked. But, I like them, so put them on - very low mintages, not really part of a circulatiing series, but tied to one, needing only minimal increase in demand to appreciate, due to very low mintage.

Ok, I'm actually putting my shoes on to leave the house. ttyl

Your list included the 1994 and 97 matte finished Jefferson nickels. Only found in the two sets. The 94 a mintage of 167,703 and the 97 a mintage of 25,000. OK as a Jefferson collector I have several sets as well as coins graded.
I can find these sets at par or below issue price. A mintage of either nickel are the lowest in the Jefferson series other than proof mintage's. I would love to consider these sleepers. But a sleeper holds value and increases in value not looses value! Your list shortens.

I thought the purpose of this thread was to speculate on moderns. You are a horrible speculator if you consider tanking (but not quite all the way...yet) doing well. So how does this support your hypothesis? Oh wait; I forgot... We are ignoring all coins that don't fit your hypothesis.

Really? I'm not sure about the 94, it is not on the 100k or less list. The last time I looked at the 97 it was $150 to $200 and it was issued in a set with a silver dollar for I think $25.

Are you adjusting these numbers for inflation and/or accounting for opportunity cost?

    Let's not get "testy" there.

Many of these pucks have appreciated, yet many were purchased by bullion buyers, so many wins and far less loss on the bullion in this pm market, is a win - especially for a series that has a strong, but small enough following to create some really low mintages, so maybe a bright future. These turned out to be a great hedge for bullion. Until recently, the P’s sold for a very small markup over pm, so no where near the losses experienced for bullion.

As for analysis, one less than perfect performance does not disprove a hypothesis. If you think it does, remove the Pucks from the list and deal with that. I'll leave them on the list, as it makes the list complete, and I believe they're a win.

Just mentally comparing them to all the losses in other sectors. I'll let you crunch the numbers.

Of course not!...all these high grade modern coins is a one way street...only sellers and no buyers.

I somehow missed this earlier. In fairness to you, they look like bargains compared to Enron and Lehman Brothers stock. Kenneth Lay would be jealous.

Of course. All jokes aside, we are being (relatively) civil in our disagreement.
