In my opinion my favorite coin to collect is the Walking Liberty 1916-1947 just because of the beautiful design, the silver content and sheer weight and feel, I think all those together makes one heck of a coin, what do you think?

The best coin to collect is the one you like most (and can afford).

I fell in love with the liberty dime (aka "mercury" dimes) when I was a youngster. I don't know why, other than it was my first taste of a coin type made before I was born, so I thought they were neat. Perhaps you read on another post that I didn't complete my date/mint mark set until I was 33, mostly because of the 1916-d. In any event, I still love the coin and am continually upgrading my collection.

I think my favorite is Indian head cents but I also like Barber dimes and V nickels.

There are nice lineages (sets) seen amongst the Italian coins, and the French and the Polish. Not to forget Great Britain. One can begin back in the 1600s or begin with moderns. One can focus upon PM or base metals. My personal favorite is:
Mexico or Italy. Both present rich history and great coins to match. Conder my man, do you have time to find a fav in your collection?? Post a pic. I realize it may take you some time.............................................................

I collect Seated Liberty Quarters and Jefferson Nickels

These sets are practically polar opposites and compliment each other well when looking for a balance of a tough, relatively difficult series to acquire versus a modern, relatively easily set to acquire.

Both have a ton of varieties and can appeal to a specialist, and you can easily do a high grade Jefferson set for not a lot of money. So these two sets help me remain interested and when I am stuck on one or low on money I can easily switch over to the other set.

But as has already been mentioned, collect what YOU like

You are right about the Jefferson Nickel that is cheaper than the Liberty Quarter to collect but also to collect Jefferson nickel is not that cheap to collect if you are collecting them in "FS" in high grades.

There is no debate that the best coin series to collect is the Jefferson Nickel.

I too love the Jefferson Nickel and only the dates before 2008. Before the changes.

I have a complete date / mint mark set of Jeffersons from the first year through 2008. I also have all the Lincoln memorial cents (not the wheaties) from 1959 through 2008, the entire Franklin half date / mint mark set, the entire Roosevelt dime date / mint mark set through 2010, and the Kennedy half date / mint mark set through 2010. But as I said earlier, my favorite is the "mercury" dime set, which I have also completed.

Right now I'm working on a date / mint mark set of buffalo nickels and Washington quarters.

  19. Walking Liberty halves and Standing Liberty 25c, what else?

  20. Also, Morgan dollars, particularly the 13 from Carson City. Peace dollars, although they get awfully pricy in high grades.

I think all the changes to the new quarters, dollars and nickels are CRAZY, there almost impossible to keep track of and hard to collect JUST KEEP TO ONE FREAKING DESIGN so stupid, anyone agree?
