The crowd I know in coins, that I hang out with, would not used that on copper.. Olive oil with a Q-tip, would be ok ... But I know its part of the coin and there is also, different styles of double ears for varieties too ..
If you bring the coin to a show I'm at I'll gladly image it for you free and offer my opinion... I set up at shows in MD, PA, VA, OH, & NC
Looks like a die chip to me. It appears that the lower lobe is in a shallower relief than the, for lack of a better term, "Ghost Lobe" or what appears to be an upper lobe. A die chip in that area would give the same effect in that it would be in higher relief.
Just rinse it in water and let it air dry . But be careful where you leave it to dry if you own a dog . Lol...
Its to big for a die chip and the next phase would be a die break which would have part of the element ( ear ) missing and that not going on either
Finally an actual conversation of an actual coin that could actually be something good, that I could actually learn something from some respectable people who know their stuff. so tired of reading those threads where someone who will remain nameless speculates about things that would make the greatest minds in the world over the last 4,000 years say WHAT???
Its not a stain jay, there's something there . when potter see it I'll let you guys know what he thinks . But I know he going to like it . Have you seen the new double ears on error variety yet, their starting to pile up over there .. http://www.errorvariety.com/Doubled-dies/Doubled_Ears.html
This is an 07 next to your 07. The size of the lobe would be too small on your coin without the part that looks like doubling. I hope Potter says it is a DDO but I'm not seeing it.
If the end of earlobe location is compared to the circular divot in the hair just to left of earlobe, you see that the lowest lobe on Rick's coin is in the proper location. So if there is an anomaly there it is with the upper 'lobe'
