I know it's "RAW" but is it "RARE" or perhaps "SCARCE" or maybe just "VINTAGE"?

I assume you are referring to the D mintmark?

    Jes!
The first coin has no mint mark. All of these coins should in theory have a mint mark.
Any thoughts on why the first coin has no mint mark?

    I see on e-bay about $4 for a set with D F G J, no mention of no mark.

@chrisild is in Germany, he might know something.

Exactly! Is the first coin an error strike or perhaps an early engraved SNFU by the German mint?

I would guess one of three things:

    (1) worn off (through circulation/rubbing against something)
    (2) grease filled die
    (3) altered (i.e. someone manually wore it down)

A quick cursory search turns up nothing, this might be a filled die type of error, or something else. I sincerely hope it turns up to be very rare and worth lots of bucks or marks :)

    (1) worn off (through circulation/rubbing against something) *Not likely
    (2) grease filled die *Plausible
    (3) altered (i.e. someone manually wore it down)[/QUOTE] *Hmmm...maybe

There's a lot of wear on that coin. The "L" on "Lander" is also worn off, so that would be my guess.

My thought at first, but it seems "to" specific.

There is a hint of a faint F there.

I'm not a collector of the type, but looked around on eBay to see if there was evidence of different placements of the mint mark. About the sixth or seventh coin I looked at I came across what appears to be a F over D, if that was possible. Screenshot (7).png

I agree with the filled die error. There is too much detail for selective handling and wear to have worn the mm area and L on the obverse.

It's very difficult to see anything, the ebay pic isn't sharp enough. I don't think it's a F/D though. It could just be damage or possibly a RPM. I don't collect German Federal, but have a couple German Imperial and a Weimar with RPM's, so I don't think they are all that unusual
