Hi, Just a thought as it is probable that several of us have had to do this before. On occasion, we find ourselves in a position where selling a coin or two, or three is something we have to do, not something we want to do. So even though we are collectors, we sometimes have to consider what will sell and what won't sell in the way we treat our coins. A majority of the collecting public seems to be interested in uncleaned coins. Of course, many people buy coins thinking that they are uncleaned but they have been cleaned anyway, but that is beside the point. When I've sold coins, no offense to dealers, I find that the first words out of their mouths when a coin has in fact been cleaned are, "I can't give you full price for this, It's been cleaned" . I therefore find that coins in as original condition as they can be hold their value better in the current market. That has some value to me. If people eventually tend toward coins that are "preserved" or "conserved" (ancy terms for cleaning) Then I'll change my stance with respect to buying coins that I may consider selling at some point. As for a person's preferences when collecting, There are some great bargains to be found if a coin has been carefully and not abrasively cleaned. So for those folks who like a great looking coin like the IHC here, That's fine. I do like the looks of a coin that has not been cleaned though. It's just a matter of taste. Have Fun, Bill
I am not familiar with how they grade regular coinage, but if that coin was an Indian head cwt, from what I have seen, a top tier tpg would likely grade it somewhere high XF to low MS.
Thanks CWtokenman...its been sometime since I've seen you here...maybe I've just missed you.... I saw a nice CWT the other day but for some reason I forgot why I left it... Speedy
