I was thinking the same thing Bone was Speedy which is why I wanted a measurement. But if you can't measure it, then just place it on top of another coin and see that way.
I'll try to get that ASAP--as you know I don't collect Morgan Dollars so I don't have many just laying around The reason I didn't think it was spooned was because I've never seen one that has been spooned this well....nor that doesn't show any sign of reading---I took a 10x to it and still dont' see any sign. I would say that ya'll are right. Speedy
Sorry for the dumb question, but what does "spooned" mean? Does it require a spoon at all? Sorry if this sounds ignorant, I was just curious. Nice coin BTW Speedy, even if it has been altered. :thumb: Phoenix
Well a long time ago we would take a spoon and tap all around the coins edge...over time and with even tapping..the rim will get smooth..just like what Speedy has. The thing that gets me is how perfect it is..I say it was finely milled and the coins mass should be the give away. So Speedster..have you taken a micrometer to it yet to get the measurements? What is it's mass? RickieB
I'll take that one. It's like the rim was hammered in. You just bang it with a spoon. Or you can be more sophisticated in your choice of tools/methodology. So this rim looks too pretty darn good for just that, huh? Yeah, that's the issue...
Cool, thanks for the explainations Eddie and Rickie. Thought it had something to do with a spoon, but wasn't sure. Still, pretty neat Speedy. :thumb: Phoenix
What mintmark is on that spooned 1921 Morgan $1? Is it 'S',or is it 'D'? I think that it is worth its scrap silver value at least. Aidan.
That is what gets be able---how perfect it looks. No I haven't gotten to get that yet---I hope to have that by tonight or tomorrow. I might take it into my dealer today and see what he thinks. Aidan Its a D.... Speedy
I'm still working on getting what ya'll asked for. I took it into my dealer today and he said that he think its been spooned. Ya'll are good !!! Speedy
