and the liberty is clear...clasp is somewhat clear but I don't know
the date is faint...hmm...can anyone help me out??

If anything...I like the coin...its old...its cheap and the design

It's better than FR2. The reverse should make G04 and the obverse might make VG8. If I assigned an overall grade it would be G06.

Nice pick up for the price!

I'd say it's AG3 at best. Then again I never grade anything without full rims any higher than an AG3. I'd say it'd be G4 to a TPG.

It has an old cleaning, which is really nothing to mention since just about every single one has been cleaned before.

    Yeah - I would say AG-3.

Woah, what's with the sudden agreement that anything without full rims should by at best AG3? I used to be rebuked for that idea. Uneven toning usually signifies cleaning. But, with a coin like this it really doesn't matter.

The Red Book utilizes generalities when pointing out wear patterns, these old coins like this 1836 half almost has to be done on a coin by coin basis.

I would think AG (About Good) is in the ball park, but assigning a numerical grade to that AG is dicey at best when grading off of images. Having the coin in hand can reveal good points and also any bad points.

For $23 bucks you did quite well.

that's where I got confused which was from the original question...
the details are somewhat visible but the date is half visible...
but if anything ill take AG3...and for what I paid for it...it's another filler
    for my half dollar set...

thanks for all the opinions...very much appreciated=)

Here's a PCGS G04 for reference. Your coin compares very favorably with this piece:
