(Sorry for the re-post...the pics did not load in the first one) I'm debating whether or not to purchase these following coins: listed as Gem Brillian Uncirculated ms-63 (local store) $300 and the other: listed as Extra Fine $135 (coin store) let me know what are your thoughts on it... if the coin has been cleaned....lower grade than said... im not sure...but I really want to purchase a nice high grade barber... thanks and all comments are appreciated good luck and happy hunting -acsf89
Are you looking at these on eBay? You never want to trust photos of raw coins on eBay. For all you know they could be doctored photos or over-exposed to cover cleaning marks. On another note, they don't look right to me. Dan
first is from a coin website (BU) and the other is from ebay.... they do look suspicious but I don't know..... that's why I need some opinions on the coins
I personally am not that into Barbers so I don't know for certain. I've got a couple in fine or very fine. The BU coin definitely looks cleaned to me. I think the XF coin looks nice and accurately graded. I would actually bid on it. I've been wanting a higher grade barber half or quarter for myself, just to have a nice one. I would go for that one. Besides, it is cheaper and it's not like you're gambling on a $2,500 coin.
I would caution you on buying any series from these websites, ( Especially the Barber ) that use " BU " as a descriptive. More often than not you receive problem coins . I would suggest that you find yourself a reputable dealer to work with.
do a search on Ebay for Barber PCGS or Barber NGC if you buy coins already graded by these two top services, you take most of the gamble out and you also know if you are paying too much
This one has some nice toning... http://cgi.ebay.com/1893-Barber-hal...38?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item4aa5b00936 By the way ... Dont buy anything on ebay unless it has a return policy 3 or 7 days typical ... as coins sometimes (often) look different in hand than the photos
This is gorgeous but might be out of your price range ... http://cgi.ebay.com/1912-Barber-Hal...92?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3cb1f9c504
thanks for all the responses....I really appreciate it... and @ wingedliberty the 1893 is a perfect coin... (i love everything about it)....and as for the 1912... too much for my price range...more so ($300-$500) I just want a nice high grade barber as the "ONE" you know what I mean?? (My prized one, besides key dates and stuff) thanks again for every opinion/comment... I decided not to get either and focus on a slabbed coin... much appreciated...I will try to win that 1893 hehe -acsf89
I'm confused. (That's nothing unusual.) You posted two coins, one "local store" and a price and the other "coin store" and a price. Then you said both coins are being sold online. So the two coins you posted are not being sold at a "local store" and a "coin store"?
I meant local online store (seattle) and a different online store... to clear things up....but I did not purchase either coins... the color does look off....which is why I did not purchase it... and as for dwhiz...I love jj teaparty...I've been buying a couple of coins there recently...and they are great=) thanks for the opinions everybody=) good luck and happy hunting -acsf89
FWIW, I agree with the last two posters: The gals at JJ Teaparty are great to work with. Their prices are a bit strong, IMO, but if the coin's all there I see no reason to hesitate.
So ACSF89, did you end up winning this PCGS AU-55 1893 Barber? It fired off on ebay for $432 last night. Inquiring minds want to know!
sadly I thought I was going to win with $420 but at last minute I ended up losing to someone who bid $432... ugh...but I guess there are many other opportunities... thanks for inquiring though WingedLiberty and telling me about the coin=) -acsf89
