They've been around for 30 years, like it or not TPGs are a part of the hobby now. The next generation of collectors have grown up and come into collecting with them already being established
Forgot to mention this before. TPGS's are often used by younger individuals as a training ground. Very many of the TPG's go out on their own as dealers when they leave.
I got back on here looking for the ICG guarantee that someone posted. Guess it is not in this thread.
That's exactly what I did. Before I found forums and gained the knowledge I have today I used pcgs for about a year. Probably paid close to a couple grand learning how to grade via pcgs submissions. Sure alot of my coins were morgans and I've always had an instinctually good eye so technically I didn't loose much in paying for that education but boy oh boy did I have fun thinking common dates I bought at estate auctions and such might come back 65 or better just waiting for them to upload the grades. I must say though that having the true knowledge to be a shark at auctions and shows really is much more fun... and much more profitable And next year I'll have gained even more knowledge and more still the year after that... Johnny-5 needs input!
I was referring to the young graders who worked there at one time until they went out on their own. You have taken another route to learning. Remind me not to butt heads w/you anymore. I too am mostly self-taught. Then took the seminar route as I detest the cost of grading & Cheap!
