I've gotten a bit sorted. The Ryedale does NOT like foreign coins, but a few did slip through the sorter, which is nice because they’re also copper coins. I’ve been hand sorting them with a penny sift, while I wait for my other machine to come in. In doing it by hand, I’ve found quite a few wheat cents that caught my eye. As I go through the coppers, I pull out the better/redder looking cents. I’ll see about making a series run with them. Maybe I’ll make two.
So I’ve been hand sifting these waiting on my new sorting machine. Some new finds. The wheats I have found are only what has caught my eye while sifting. I have yet to sort the copper cents that my Ryedale has sorted. I’m certain I’ll find more. I took a large amount to the bank. It was the last of the grey bin in the original photos. The weight was about 200 or so lbs. In total, it was 38,539 cents. They had to come switch out the penny bags mid way through. The last photo is of the coins that passed through the Ryedale but got rejected at the bank’s sorter.
wow maybe some day I'll have the fervor to go through all the cents I have. Right now, they're just ballast to me and some thing that looks kinda cool in stacks. I should just give them all to @Rick Stachowski to go through lol
On the 1968 Panama 1 cent, it's the same as a penny same composition same diameter and it weighs 3.1, however NGC world coins site has it listed as .80 cents in XF-40. All of the Panama and Bermuda money is 1-1 with the USD and most of their coins are the same size and weight as ours and fit our vending machines, tolls, parking meters, etc.
Good to know. I really appreciate the info. I’m not really into selling coins, so these become part of my world type set or get traded or donated to a good cause. Unless they’re worth a lot of money, then I reconsider that stance
If I could send my dump coins to him without spending a ton of money, I would. I bet there’s tons of goodies in here. I found a 1995 DDO early on, but gave up searching zinc cents.
I thought the 1968 Panama looked uncleaned and in very good condition. A keeper. In MS 60 it says $1.50 and MS 63 $2.50. Their prices are a little high retail, but it's just a guide.
I agree that it is uncleaned. But I don’t sell coins or have access (or maybe also interest) to such a knowledge base. I wouldn’t know how to get 80 cents for the coin and I wouldn’t be interested in trying to figure that out. This is why I don’t think I could ever be a dealer. All these tiny transactions add up, but I don’t have the patience. I will definitely keep the coin and am grateful for the knowledge.
Oh yeah. I don't mean to sell. Just when I get a coin for .01 cent face that is worth a dollar, just put it in a flip and save it.
This is a very good point. I’ll definitely put this one in a 2x2 and mark it. The one from Pakistan too; I like it. Perhaps I’ll find a way to get a little from the coin someday.
Today I dumped 57,307 cents in the bank. I am concerned because I noticed a large amount of wheat cents in what is supposed to be my non-copper stash. I’ve been using the Ryedale machine to sort copper and non, but for some reason, wheat cents get rejected into Zlincolns. I’ll test some ideas on how to fix this and maybe message Ryedale. Until then, here’s what made it through two sorters but got rejected at the bank, or I fished it out before sending it into the sorter. A few goodies in there. Here are all the wheat cents that were mixed in with the Zlincolns. I fished maybe 2/3s of these out as I dumped and the machine was nice enough to return the other 1/3. I wonder how many I missed and gave to the bank?? I’ve not searched these at all. These are going into a container to be searched when all the sorting and dumping fun is over.
Well, I cannot rightly say, because I haven't searched them through. I've seen everything from 1909 to 1958. I'm willing to bet most are 40s/50s, but I think there's a good variety. I might even find me one of those hard to find ones, who knows?! Did you see that there was a 1900 IHC in that first photo? Edit: also the coin above that is from 1819. Might be the oldest one I've seen yet.
