And..... The result. A few points to note......

    1) I personally feel ICG slightly overgraded this by about two points and gave it a “bump” for eye appeal.... but I’ve seen similar coins in NGC and PCGS VG10 holders.
    2) I paid FMV VG8 money for this, so the market technically decided its final grade.
    3) I think it had an old cleaning maybe decades ago, and the coin retoned and developed its current “skin” so ICG felt it was market acceptable.
    4) Eye appeal is strong on this. I’ve seen far worse 1921-D in higher graded holders. The Mint Mark is one of the nicest and sharpest struck for this issue that I have seen in this grade.

I agree with this assessment, Jason. I pegged it at an 8 and that’s what I paid for it as, the reverse rim wear was what made me think 8.

One thing to remember though. The grading standards on 1921 and 1921-D is always more liberal than The 1916-D. This is necessary, especially in regards to the reverse, as the issue is known for a weak reverse strike- especially on the rim and fasces sticks.
