and, what better to get around foreign exchange control than a coin in the pocket. So, for me, 1000 US a month with max of 100,000 on a single purchase.

Over $400 I consider to be pricey. It does depend on the coin though.

Now it seems like you're talking real estate...

A question, not considering health or family related things, what would you think can by stats outperform a nice rare coin collection to your retirement?

A healthy and well diversified portfolio.

Historically, small business stocks have outperformed all other investment categories.

Real estate can be a good investment, especially the house you live in, or a rental property. In the case of the house you live in, you would either be paying rent to someone else, or investing in your future. Unless you have a good reason to not buy, then it's almost a no-brainer. As for rental properties, especially those you buy using a residental mortgate (i.e. You buy one house, live in it for a few years, then buy another house and rent your first house out). The tenants pay your mortgage while the value of the house (hopefully) appreciates.

Like any other investment, there are risks. But if you manage your property well, you can minimize most of those risks.

That is true, but aforementioned posts and your competency should almost be a natural progression of things in life. I am referring to more than that.

Expensive = More money than I want to pay, a lot more expensive if I would lose it.

I would consider a coin that costs more than 100.00 to be a bit expensive and a coin over 500.00 looking for trouble from the wife and hard to justify. A coin over 1000.00 is extravagent around my house and does not make any sense to the wife but I have all of these expensive coins in the safe.

If you are talking about some of the intangibles, then yes, a fine coin collection does, and will, bring much satisfaction in life.

I'd say that a purchase of around $200 would be considered big and $400-500 on a coin is when it would be a major buy and would take some thinking and a really great coin.

i like to get nice coins cheap so i shop, but cheap is a relative word as we all know regarding coins.i have spent alot for a cheap coin and felt good about it.i don't really put a number per month for coins so i don't know what to say there.
