What coins were considered collectable 200 years ago?

Not disagreeing sir, I have read similar. Just saying I could see more impromptu auctions happening this way fairly regularly before more formal sales began. In my mind, 6 or 8 dealers and collectors meeting once a month at a certain spot to sell coins to each other, but using open outcry to quickly find who will pay the most, kind of like local coin clubs do today.
