When I was preteen and early teens, (1950 - 1955) Walkers, Liberty Dimes, Wheat Cents and Buffalo Nickels where still around and would appear regularly. Franklins were just a few years old, and for some reason the Washington Quarters replaced the SLQ rather thoroughly by then. Jefferson nickels out numbered the Buffaloes 3 to 1, but many Buffaloes were war vintage. I also remember silver dollars being available at banks, but even then, people would rather have the Washington Paper Dollar if given the choice. I would go up to Northern Wisconsin fishing in the late fifties (1957-1959), and in the local grocery stores and bars, Indian Heads and some Barber coins would occasionally appear. I casually started collecting currency in my mid teens and not seriously until my early twenties. A lot of my early collection disappeared when I paid for my entire wedding with them. That was a combination of :>) and :>(
