bq: Now you are talking. Great date, great sleeper. I only have one in Fine, and my best is a VF. Very scarce date, much better than the price indicates.
:thumb: Unless it is at bid, and slabbed by a real company (SGS does not qualify, nor most of the other alphabet turkeys.)
Let me add: I wasn't planning on bidding on anything on Ebay; I would much prefer buying a coin in person. That was just an example of what I was thinking of, and wondering if that was a realistic price. I'm not a novice collector, but I'm by no means an expert. Key dates seem pretty boring to me. I have a Barber quarter, Morgan dollar, and Peace dollar. I wouldn't be interested in buying another with a key date unless I was trying to collect the whole series.
Well, that kind of shut things down while opening them up at the same time. Let's go type that you may NOT have. 1875-S 20 Cent in F12. Most common date but an uncommon coin. 1866 2 Cent Piece in MS60+. If you can find one - not considered a key date but tough in higher grades. Common date Trade dollar in VG-F. MAKE SURE IT'S a reputable dealer - counterfeits abound. 1913 Barber Half in VG. Decent shape and under rated. Still like "the other Frank's" 1914-S Barber quarter though. What about Standing Liberties? 1927-S in F12 while you can get it. Not huge "keys" here but all will go up in value. clembo
If I wanted to take the time, I could list several hundred candidates for you - from all over the world and all historical eras! Just grab a Krause and wander through its pages.
Depends on what you like, unless you are looking strictly for something which will go up in value. in which case you must be patient. Now and then there is sure thing (like that reverse proof silver eagle).
So many choices. I'd get a gem example of a coin type that ***you*** enjoy. Sometimes the best deals aren't anticipated. Ruben
I like the idea of Standing Liberties and 20 Cent Piece. Maybe I'll try to complete my type set of 20th century coins.
clembo's idea of the 1927 S is great, but, it'll take a while to find one in fine (trends= $125). a very scarce coin.
