It wasn't one coin for me. I have long had an interest in coins, as long as I can recall. But I didn't start collecting until last spring when I found a small stash of my late father's. I would guess you could say the one coin design that really got me hooked was the Peace dollar. I had never seen one before, and then all of a sudden I had 5 of them. I was hooked, then and there. But with the 5 Peace dollars, there was a Morgan, a handfull of Mercury dimes, and several hundred wheat cents, mostly 40s and 50s. Since I found that stash I have become hooked on numismatics, and it's why I'm here on this forum. I have yet to find a coin I didn't like! For paper money that is a much easier answer. The current money in circulation I find somewhat on the boring side. I still check each bill I get for stars or anything else interesting, but they don't excite me to a high degree. However, seeing the notes that were also in my father's small stash...it was right them and there I became a paper money collector. One note was a Africa Emergency note. Another was a large size 1923 $2. There was a 1957 Silver certificate and a 1928 red seal in there too. I became hooked on paper money the same day as I was hooked on coins. In retrospect, that day will likely go down in my personal history as one of the most important days of my life. I had no idea at the time it would be so important, realizing the impact it would play on the rest of my life only within the last few months.
