    Ok, this US coin was not even legal to use in the United States at the time of its initial striking.

    Not yet, I will give a hint, What SILVER coin was not legal tender in the US at the time of its issue?

    Btw, the 1933 double eagle was legal tender, just not officially released, at the time of its striking. That is why I can't give you guys that one. It became not legal tender later.

    You got it. The trade dollar was struck just to facilitate trade with the far east, and was not legal tender until later in this country, when it was made legal tender up to a value of $5.

    What year and Mint were the first to strike Quarters with a mint mark? Also what design were the Quarters?

    Even us non-collectors of US coinage know that the New Orleans Mint put its mark on 382,200 Liberty Seated quarters of one version, and 43,000 of the other version in 1840 - if we own a Red Book that is.
