Hey all. Any clue what caused this damage? Notice how the one by the date is inside the circumference of the cent. The damage above liberty is same length but starts on the rim.
Unanswerable questions drive me nuts. Unless one observed the creation of the damage, everything else is speculative BS. It's akin to me asking what caused that tree to fall yesterday, or why are my neighbors so wealthy. Z
It's a toolmark of some kind. Exactly what kind, who knows. It does look like tiny deer legs, though. LOL
Looks to me like post-Mint damage. Looks punched into the coin on the obverse with nothing solid behind the reverse when that was done, hence it stands up on the reverse.
People can damage coins if they want to. I think they have some pent up animosity. Probably they didn't change his diaper fast enough when they were a baby.
