What are your very favorite Ancient Coin auction houses?

Unfortunately in this case, I paid for both via Wise.com rather than by credit card. So I will have no recourse unless the auction houses have insurance for their shipments.

I see. I've never used Wise.com. With Paypal payment is made through a credit card, Paypal Credit or checking account, whichever is on file.

So, does Wise.com require a separate account? How does that system work?

It's a platform that performs international bank transfers, with much smaller fees than what banks charge for wire transfers. And you can't get your money back once the transfer is done, any more than you can reverse a wire transfer once it's complete. Yes, you have to open an account with them. But I am sincerely hoping that these two auction houses insure their international shipments, and will put in claims for me if the coins never show up.

Is the transfer fee charged by Wise.com lower than what your credit card company would charge for a comparable purchase? They do provide an option to open a case for a refund. I think that is an important service, so even if the credit card company fee is marginally higher, I think that assurance is worth it.

I would think that the process of recovering the funds through insurance will be time consuming and probably loaded with paperwork, at least on the seller's side.

Yes, the fees are considerably less, and the exchange rates considerably better.
