What a great history, Doug! How I wish to have an autographed copy wrote in my name by Eco...!
About hard books, I find Foucault's Pendulum one of the most difficult to read, but I really enjoyed it. Actually, some books are, given right comparisons, like listening to The Dark Side of the Moon for the first time: strange, but the second time, it may be among the best of all time.

Recently finished reading Atlantic by Simon Winchester. Excellent book. It was the first book of his that I've read.
Next time I'm at B&N I'm going to pick up a couple more of his books, I have a few in mind already but am curious to see if any of you have any suggestions regarding books he has authored. If so, recommendations are more than welcome.

I highly recommend "the Professor and the Madman".

Thanks for the recommendation. That was one of the books on my short list. I'll grab it next time I'm at the bookstore.

I read the synopsis for it at the end of Atlantic, sounded quite interesting.
