The 1947-D half might just have been struck from a very worn die, but it raises my hackles. I'd want to weigh it carefully and do a magnet test. Not the date I'd expect to be counterfeited, but I think our overseas business partners are happy to produce nearly any date in the series to "make your collection more perfect".

Listen, bud! I got this back in 1947.Edited: read rules. Counterfeited indeed! Besides that, there are two 1947 halves, not one.

The first 47 looks covered in pvc residue.

I see only one 1947-D half.

You know the provenance of the coin and have it in hand. I've got one photo of each side, showing some characteristics (color, texture, trailing on features around the periphery) that I've seen in multiple counterfeits. I offered what I could.

    He's right Jeff, there's 2 different '47 halves. One's a P and one's a D.

So, when I type 1947-D, is the "-D" visible only to me?

Of course not! The photos are clear. One has no mint mark and the other has a D.

Why didn't anyone address the Italian commemorative or the Mexican peso?

Pictures of the Italian coin aren't very clear and I can't help you with paper money.

Okay, I can see how my posts could have been misinterpreted. There's only one 1947-D half, and that's the one each of my posts mentioned explicitly. I didn't see any point in commenting about the 1947-P -- it's a common coin, in common condition (with some PVC damage), and if there are rare varieties for that date, I don't know them. I'd offer melt or less for it, and sell it for melt or not much more.

I didn't comment about the Italian or Mexican issues because I don't know anything about them. If I commented on everything I know nothing about, I'd be very busy indeed here, and even more annoying.

The Italian coin (top pic) is dated 1970 and commemorates Rome's one hundredth anniversary as the capital of Italy.

The Mexican Peso is a Revolutionary issue authorized in 1914 but dated 1915.

my prices came from my 2016 Krause world coin catalog. some coin values are way off, but with such a high mintage for your coin the values are probably correct.
