What Are these "Hobo Nickels" Junk to me

    Hobo nickels and love tokens are two of America's outstanding categories of folk art, imho.

    Some of those pictured above are exquisite examples. : )

    If I am correct, the name Hobo Nickel has nothing to do with the carving, it has to do with the peeps that did the carving, since the majority of them were hobos. :D They had plenty of time on their hands, so they'd sit around and carve on the nickel with their pocket knife or anything handy. :D That's why the older stuff is worth a lot more than the new stuff but some of the new stuff is done so well, they command a premium too. :thumb:

    Hobo can tell us more about these than I can! :hail:

    Obviously, these pieces are works of art. Some more attractive than others. What do you expect. Art is subjective. Personally, I love Billzachs work. That is "coin-art".
