e-bay has it's place If you are just starting out buying metals e-bay may not be the best place to go. But if you know about spot prices and premiums then go for it. Try looking at a local coin shop first to buy metals. Try getting to know them. You are going to need to sell them somewhere and in an emergency or currency crisis e-bay won't be the place unless you except yen. ha ha
why I stay with ebay I used to be an avid outdoor person. Now,I am not. For the past year,I've been selling stuff that accumulated over the last 70 years. I tried websites frequented by people with the same interests as me. I did very well when I sold at a very low price, but not when I started to ask a more realistic price. I then tried selling on ebay.I rarely got less then expected, usually got about what I hoped for and quite often,a lot more then I expected. I now had a stash of 'mad' money to spend,in my paypal account. It was just natural for me to look to ebay for sellers. Now,I'm looking to buy a little smarter; thats why I'm here. I've already learned some things I appreciate your responses Frank
Question, Do you have a store or just selling individual items once in awhile? With the fees you have to pay to both e-bay and pay-pal your profit is About 0% !!!
mpcusa No,I don't have a store.I just had enough stuff, that garnered me over 200 dollars. Things that were given away, back in the 1960's,are now worth money. This week,I sold 3 bandoliers,(cloth carriers for army ammunition)that are usually just discarded, after using.I got 13 dollars on ebay. Frank
mpcusa not sure just what you man;I'll give two answers. Yes,the bandolier is a good thing If you are a collector of military memobilia it will enhanse your M1 Garand display.ALSO,a bandolier carries six 8 rd clips of ammo for the Garand.if you intend to shoot it. Yes;selling something that cost nothing, for $13.00,is always a good thing. Frank
All of the coins I have, were purchased from eBay or from dealers I found through eBay. The fees are what they are. When buying coins I factor the fees in as the cost of doing business. I have also sold items on eBay and made out pretty well. eBay can be costly if your a seller. If your profitability is effected by the fees, there are other options for selling where you're not effected to such a degree. -James
Your right the price of doing business is called e-bay!! I really wouldnt mind It so much, But they just kick the sellers in the Butt making it harder for Them to make any money, E-bay is 95% buyer and only 10% seller they Haven taken all there rights away including not being able to leave feedback Which i find to be, Just plain wrong!!! Giving the buyer all the rights and the Sellers none!!
I agree with you totally since we cant leave negiative feedback to buyer they dont care how long it takes them to pay ebay may put it self out of bussiness by not helping sellers we count to:desk:
Frank- Many online stores around the web will accept PayPal as a payment format. I've seen quite a few coin stores online that do, so don't feel eBay is the only place where you can spend that cash... not to mention you can always wire it over to your checking account to pay bills.
i got a question about ebay. when im bidding on stuff (coins usually) lets say its on a item that has bids already. how did people bid before me and not already have a higher showing bid?
I will take a crack at this and hoping that iam understanding your question When people bid on a e-bay item they usually put in there max bid if they Put in lets say a $200 bid over the course of a couple days and you place Bids, His bids will show up in different time slots based on your bids not Necessarily the other way around, Confusing yes!!
First auction would have went something like this: 1. Price started at 1 cent. 2. y***s bid $1, the going price stayed at 1 cent. 3. e***p bid $7, the price went up to $1.50 or $2, whatever the next bid increment is at that price range. 4. n***3 bid $9, the price went up to $8 or so (the next bid increment). 5. s***m bid $17.51, the price went up to $9. 6. w***t bid either $29 exact or any price above $29, the price went up to $10. 7. You bid $23, that put the price up to $24 because his bid was higher. 8. You bid $28, that put the price up to $29 because his bid was higher. You'll never actually exactly see what w***t bid. I might be just a tad off because I'm not sure exactly what price ranges have what bid increments.
