Gorgeous Tet @Thierry Pruvost ! I agree with @Bing , the crystallization really sets off the coin, creating a very unique character. I am a big fan of Philip II. His reign took a failed Kingdom to become a World Power. It was well financed, well trained military, revolutionary organization of Infantry as well as Cavalry, and a national style government. He was cut down before he could implement his master plan of conquering Persia. He paved the way for his young son to go on to execute Philip's Plans and resources, and become famous in his father's stead. I have several of his bronzes and silvers as well as my Tet: Makedon Philip II Tet Pella LIFETIME 353-349 Zeus Horse star spearhd Le Rider 102
It is gorgeous! Not everyone likes that crystalized or reticulated surface appearance but I find it mesmerizing . Here's a similarly toned and crazed tet: KINGS OF MACEDON, Philip II. 356-336 BCE AR tetradrachm. 24mm, 14.20 gm, 12h Pella, 342-336 BCE Obv: Laureate head of Zeus right Rev: ΦIΛIΠ-ΠOY, youth, holding palm and reins, on horseback right, thunderbolt below, N in exergue Ref: Le Rider 222-306. The cracked(?) metal makes it look like Philip has some wrinkles! Love the toning too! Aussi d'où venez-vous en France? J'étais né à Offemont dans le nord-est de la France.
Great tet Thierry! And the toning on yours @TIF - marvellous! I’ve got one with a nice craquelé metal as well. Amphipolis mint.
That is one SEXY coin! That toning and crazy surface are awesome. Actually, all the coins on this thread are HOT!
