On top of receiving my 1893-S Morgan (posted separately this morning) I just found this. I don’t buy from the Mint anymore but because of the 250th anniversary of our nation I did purchase a bag of half dollars. I got them sometime ago and yes, I paid the mint’s ridiculous price of them but I’m selling them in my antique shop for even more ridiculous price.
I decided to do it with the half dollars because they make them everybody wants them and they don’t circulate. I’ve recovered a lot of the cost already and I’ve sold so many I was getting more out of the bag to put in 2 x 2 flips and put more down in my antique store.
The bag has both P and D Mint marks. I pulled this out of the bag and couldn’t believe it. And to heighten my shock, it is a Denver coin. I’m so excited on my Morgan dollar but now I have this error coin that I’m sure is very much on the rare side.
if you look at the pictures closely, you can obviously see what I’m talking about. And I’m not quite sure how to protect it. I’m still reeling from the shock of finding it. Add finding a strikethrough like this to get in an 1893S Morgan in my hands that looks as good as it does I’m at a loss for words.
I didn’t take a picture of the reverse because when you see the verse who cares? If you really wanna see a reverse, I’ll take a picture of another coin, but I’m not laying this one face down. I don’t want it to break off.
It’s a beautiful struck through with the wire that caused the strike through embedded into the coin and sticking up. I feel the pictures speak for themselves and I’m sure you can all understand my excitement. This is a once in a lifetime find and it took me 72 years to find it :)

I’ve never heard of a retained strike through and I discovered this one. I have no idea of its value either. :)

I was looking on the Internet and found that a retained strike through is 100 times rarer than a normal strike through. I already knew it but a strike through is the most common mint error.
