just wondering what’s the term used for when this happens to a coin. LIBERTY is there but no type of definition to it. IN GOD is comepletly gone. WE is barely Visible and the T in TRUST is gone also. Thanks Guys. Your time and input is greatly appreciated by this Rookie Collector lol

Looks to me like verdigris or some such material is forming. As the chemical forms, the copper of the coin is consumed.

Perhaps the term you are searching for is corrosion?

I’m not sure if it’s corrosion or damage or what ever it is. just seemed off how I explained it with the Letters being missing but appearing in other parts of the coin.

If you find letters and numbers occurring in other places on coins than they should be, it is 99/100 times (or more) damage that just looks like a number or letter.

Your coin looks like a Struck Though Debris or commonly referred to as a Grease Strike. It is in poor condition and really has no numismatic value.
