I don’t think I have seen them discussed here. I see the polished TV commercials for them all the time. I rather suspect they are playing on people’s economic fears, but I am just wondering. Has anyone done any PM business with these outfits? Do they have any reasonable deals or are they overpriced vultures playing on peoples economic concerns?
What are the company's I have seen a bunch lately about investing in gold coins. I think from the world gold reserve or something like that. I have never seen what they charge though.
Same here. I see he commercials all the time. I am afraid that if I call them I will open myself up to an endless sales calls and I don’t want that…. So I was wondering if anyone here has used one.
I'm utterly astonished that people even have to ask this question. What do you think pays for the "talent", the studio, the airtime, the phone lines, and everything else? Trust me, it's not the seller, it's the (potential) buyer (you). Old Mississippi riverboat saying: If you look around the card table and you don't know who the mark is, it's you.
I only buy bullion from reputable dealers. Never had a problem. I certainly wouldn’t buy from a TV or newspaper ad.
I am not much of a middle man buyer. I have no problem asking than the asking price. I personally think the guarantee is full replacement if found to be counterfeit. I don't think they are a scam, just that you can find it cheaper at a local dealer.
Well, one definition of a scam would be selling counterfeit goods. Sales puffery is not a scam. I don't think the TV clowns are scamming, but they definitely puff. And puffery is probably as old as Og selling clubs to Ig. At least "This chariot was only driven by a little old lady to the temple on feast days"
I'm sorry, but due to medical issues, my mind just isn't grasping what you are talking about. PM? Pre-mentrual? Post Mortem?
People probably do get caught up into these PM RIP off PM deals or they wouldn't stay on the Air. I don't need to buy off these cons because I can get taken at the coin shows and the net too.
I'm thinking the majority of buyers from these high priced companies are mothers and grandmothers who know people in their family may collect so they buy something as gifts! The same customers that support Mike Mezack and his sleazy buddies!
Oh yeah. Each Christmas I get a lovely slabbed Mezack ASE from my mom…. I don’t have the heart to tell her that she paid too much.
You mean William Devane and others ? I think the bullion is properly priced, but as I recall with Blanchard decades ago, they try and get you into buying the numismatics at huge premiums. I mean...thank GOD I told my clients 25-30 years ago to just buy bullion and avoid OVERPRICED Saints and Libertys in Mint State at $500-$1,000. The nerve !!!
The PM pumpers have been around since I have been around coins, (mid 1970's). Back then mainly directed mailings and magazine ads. Then late night tv shows, then cable shows, etc. All sell overpriced goods, in our eyes, because they have to pay for that expensive advertising. So they have to attract newer buyers constantly, because some of their customers always go to a shop or coin show and find out they overpaid and quit buying. They usually up their game in times of economic uncertainty because their chances of success go up then. Just what it is unfortunately and the main source of negative publicity around coin collecting generally.
