West point minted and released cents

    If one cent could be proven to be struck there, we would be inundated with news articles about such. Then the search would be on for die markers that match. The roll hunters would stay occupied for years and the message boards would be full of questions and blurry pictures of whether they found one. I am surprised one of the TPG's hasn't came up with one.

    They used dies made from the exact same hubs in the exact same shop.

    Why would you expect a coin that was any different, especially one that could be different in some objective way?

    My question is.. Since this is new to me, that the West Point Mint did indeed strike these alternate Mint Cents.. Then why not just put their W Mint Mark on them? o_O

    At the time West Point was not a Mint, it was an assay office, hence, no Mint Mark

    They only had legal authority to use the mint mark starting with the commemorative.
