No, there are no known genuine 1933 Washington Quarters. Any quarter dollar coin dated 1933 is a counterfeit.

Please report it to the U.S. Secret Service and send them a link to this thread.

    They don't exist.

It's either a Chinese fake, a fantasy coin,
or a 1983 that took a hit on the 8 and looks like a 3. There are no 1933 US minted
    quarters, they didn't make any.

I would be totally surprised if the Feds weren't already aware of this. Maybe they think that the impact of fake 1933 quarters is so insignificant that pursuing prosecution would cost more than the problem solved. Besides, I can assure you that if I get one in change I'll be keeping it. I would hope any other collector would do the same. In our own small way we would then be contributing to the health of the economy... just like we do when we buy coins from the mint.

I don't even think it comes under the jurisdiction of the FBI.
I think it's the Treasury Dept.

Relatives can be informed that a gift certificate from your LCS will let you buy the coins you really need or want and are a much appreciated gift. Then if something bogus is bought it's on you not on them.

Did the unsearched roll have $10 gold pieces on each end?

1933-S is only struck in a half dollar. 1933-P&D cents are only other pocket change struck that year.

They minted double eagles in 1933.

Eagles, too, but neither gold issue ever made it to "pocket change" status.

1933 $10 Gold pieces are perfectly legal and did indeed become pocket change.

Nope, I'm sticking to my story. Almost none were released before gold was recalled out of circulation. The few that survived did so because they went directly to collectors.

Methinks we simply disagree on terminology. I merely meant that they were produced and went into circulation, unlike the $20 gold.

I think you're right about our point of disagreement. To me, "went into circulation" meant they were spent, not just released from the Mint.

I see the 1933 $10 gold as more akin to a commemorative or special mint issue, not because it was struck for that purpose, but because that's where events left it.
