definitely definitely agree.. I'm sick and tired of walking into a coin shop, and not getting helped at all because I'm young.
Ask to look at more than 5 coins and I'm already a nuisance...
cant even argue a grade without them completely disregarding what you said...
So show respect to the young collectors, as stated before...
    bread and butter...

Instead of discussing what to buy, I think what is more important is to note whom you are trying to sell your coins to. If you are trying to open a store where there are a lot of younger generation, it's important to note their buying power especially in an economic time like this. Of course if you are planning on an e-commence store it might be a different story but I may be mistaken

I agree with a bunch of the comments on here, especially invest in good service. Be polite to everyone, young and old, male or female. :thumb: Now, since this is a fantasy, I'd get some Lincoln Cents (higher and lower end), early proof coins, matte proof Lincolns, and a few ounces of gold and silver. :D Definetly get a 09 VDB matte proof cent too. :D

    Phoenix

How about having good prices, but retaining the go-go dancers for side entertainment?

Been through that nonsense, and believe me I know some big time dealers on the West Coast of the USA that can kiss my grits now that I have a fatter wallet than their then "preferred" customers. They should remember that scrawny teenager that haunted all coin shows, books in hand, asking to look at practically everything. OTOH I remember the dealers that knew me never hesitated to hand me $10K worth of coins without so much as a blink, because they must have figured I was serious about the hobby and not out to walk off with something. And guess where I spend my $$$$$ these days?:kewl:

Well, we may have to reduce the quality of the go-go dancers.

*Gasp* No roto!!! If the dancers' quality suffers, so will we. We have to uphold standards.

No, not the quality, but rather the quantity. Never ever let quality slip. It is bad for business. Rather lessen the quantity.

For real though here is a great idea and I just don't know why more don't do this. At one coin show I go to I started talking to one of the dealers that always has a pile of customers around. All are buying all the time. They probaby have more sales than anyone at the show. Maybe not the largest amount of money incoming but in one day they make enough that it pays for lots and lots. This is what they do. They go to the banks where they know someone and buy large amounts of rolls of new coins. They also send in for large amounts of proof and uncirc sets from the Mint. All proof and Uncirc sets are opened. All coins go into those little
1-1/2" x 1- 1/2" flips. Not the 2x2's. Then they put all those in those plastic sheets that hold about 20 and then into a large 3 ringed binder. All new coins are marked as just Uncirs or MS. No numbers. All proofs are titiled Proofs. It is amazing how many people need those loose proofs for albums. It is amazing how many people need new coins that they just can not find in change so they buy them.
Most common, modern cents are about .35 to .50 each. GEE, see any profit there.
Like I said they have the most crowded table at the shows they go to.

    Nice plan...

... but if you just buy 'em pot luck, I guarantee you'll have a MUCH lower batting average than 10% !

Better have Strong Eyes to cherry pick undergraded $10s. They've been heavily scanned.

    But they're out there...

I'm just gonna buy an 1880 Coiled Hair $4 and fill that last hole in my Dansco $4 Stella set.
